International Human Resource Development at National Taiwan Normal University

Program Introduction

This award is available to pursue a full-time master’s degree programs in International Human Resource Development (IHRD) at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). The program is taught in English.

The IHRD program’s features are as follows:

  1. International and cross-cultural environment. IHRD students came from all five continents. The recently enrolled are from Belize, Belgium, Denmark, Honduras, Hungary, Indonesia, the Kingdom of Eswatini, Malaysia, Mongolia, South Korea, Russia, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the U.S., and Vietnam. By being immersed in an environment of such diverse cultures, students have the opportunity to study and live in a truly international environment and learn cross-cultural communication skills through experience.
  2. Versatile career prospects. As the world now recognizes the importance of human capital and talent management, the IHRD program is great for those who work or will like to work as policy makers in labor, training, and education-related segments in the government, or as human resource professionals in the personnel/HR office of any organizations. After graduation, students can pursue managerial/specialist positions at corporations, provide HR consulting services, manage career and training centers, or start own business. Many IHRD alumni now work as high-ranking government officials or as managers in well-known companies such as Asus, HTC, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), Wistron Corporation, Citi Bank, Cathay United Bank, etc.
  3. Connection to the leading industries in Taiwan. Taiwan leads the world with its highly competitive technology industry and is also well-known for its vibrant service sectors such as banking and retail. This MBA program holds regular learning activities such as industry field trips, speeches from practitioners, workshops and conferences, linking students to these leading industries. IHRD locates in Taipei city, which is the capital and business center of Taiwan, making it convenient to conduct internships during the study.
  4. Easy access to Chinese language and culture learning. National Taiwan Normal University was ranked 28th worldwide in the field of education by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings in 2021 due to its leading research in Chinese language teaching and science education among 40,000 universities. NTNU is also the home for the largest and the most renowned Chinese language center (Mandarin Training Center), with around 1,700 students from more than 70 countries enrolled each academic quarter.

The award is co-sponsored by the National Taiwan Normal University. The program will take 2 years to earn a master’s degree, and NTNU offers full tuition waivers and student dormitory as long as the candidate maintains satisfactory academic standards.

Weather

Taipei has a humid subtropical climate, hot summers and mild winters. The average temperature in summer ranges from 27°C to 33°C (80°F to 91°F), while winter temperatures typically fall between 15°C and 20°C (59°F to 68°F). Summers are hot and humid with occasional rainstorms and typhoons, while winters are short, generally warm, and often foggy.

Critical Language Enhancement Award

The Critical Language Enhancement Award (CLEA) provides an opportunity for Fulbright U.S. Student Program grantees to receive intensive language study in addition to their research/study grants. The award provides tuition reimbursement for grantees to pursue language training in the host countries.

Application for CLEA is made in conjunction with the Fulbright U.S. Student application. However, being awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student grant does not guarantee receipt of CLEA since review of each award is conducted separately and is contingent upon several factors. In Taiwan, only degree-seeking students pursuing Master’s studies will be eligible for CLEA. Prior Language Study

Prior language study is not required.

Dates and Timing

16 weeks, concurrent with academic studies during the first semester. CLEA recipients will be expected to arrive by the end of August to begin intensive language studies with one-on-one teaching arranged by the Foundation for Scholarly Exchange (Fulbright Taiwan). CLEA language classes will take place through an exclusive, close partnership with FSE-approved Mandarin educators. All instructors are well-trained in TCSL pedagogy, and they offer all levels of language instruction from beginner to advance.
