Awards are available to pursue a full-time Master’s Degree program in Teaching Chinese as a Second/Foreign Language at National Kaohsiung Normal University (NKNU). The program is taught in Mandarin.
To develop students’ professional knowledge for a future career in Chinese language education, NKNU-TCS/FL has developed the 6 featured courses (18 credits) since 2017. Courses taught include Chinese Language Education in International Schools, Innovative Technology Integration (applications of AR, VR, 3D technology, and other innovative technologies), Global Chinese Education and Development, Computerization, Chinese corpus, and Chinese Language Education for Immigrants (exploring issues of transnational students, translanguage education, and public policy).
The Fulbright student will conduct an internship (1) for bilingual education projects conducted by NKNU, or (2) for teaching Chinese as a Second Language. Every semester, NKNU will provide online/onsite teaching or administrative assistant positions accordingly. For instance, intern teachers or administrative staff may join 2022/2023 Project Go, intern as Chinese teachers at local schools/international schools, or serve as teaching assistants in online cross continental cooperative projects. Students can join any of those projects depending on their qualifications to fulfill the requirements.
The award is co-sponsored by the National Kaohsiung Normal University. The program will take 3 years to earn a master’s degree. International students spend their first year in studying Chinese in order to improve their Chinese language and study skills to the level needed for the program study. After completing a Chinese language program, international students will continue their studies toward their master’s degree. NKNU offers full tuition waivers and student dormitory as long as the candidate maintains satisfactory academic standards.
